Manual driving is not the toughest of tasks as there are a number of drivers in other countries where manual transmission is the one which is available. There are a number of ways by which a person can learn to drive a stick shift and learning from self tutorials is one such way.

In order learn to drive a car it is very important for a person to more about it. Learn the basics about your car and how to use a gear and a clutch. It is also essential to know more about the second gear because this is work horse which can get you up or down any steep surface. Of all the gears which one can see in a stick shift reverse gear is something different and as the name suggests it takes you in the reverse. Once you have learnt about the gears its time you learnt how to use them or how to shift them.

Learn shifting when the car is stationary initially. Make sure you are well versed with the pattern and do not forget to push the clutch with your leg when you do this. Once you have mastered doing it perfectly you can go on to the next level which is starting the car. While shifting gears it is essential that you shift them fully and else you will be forced to hear an unpleasant noise.

Initially starting isn’t easy either and make sure if the car is in neutral before starting. Once you have started it you can proceed to drive with the help of the clutch and the gear system. Make the best of use the clutch and learn to use it effectively. Feel with your feet effectively to see where the clutch engages and disengages. If you proceed to change gears without using the clutch or with the clutch halfway, it can cause considerable wear and tear.

In order to be successful in driving a stick shift a person has to master it and this comes only with considerable practice. Once you have mastered this you can go on to have a smooth experience. Learning to shift the stick to accelerate is only half the job and one has to learn downshifting too, to complete master the process. Downshifting might be easy relatively but it only in those steep slopes things get difficult and you must be in a position to handle that as you might encounter a number of flyovers and bridges in your driving route. Practice is the key in learning to drive a stick shift.

The major reason which makes people hesitate to shift from place to another is because it is hectic. If one has to move, he is left with carrying all his belongings too and as you all know most of our belongings are too big and heavy to carry on our head with us. You are left with no other option but to ship your goods and believe me shipping can be one of the most stressful jobs. You are not left alone once you have packed your items for shipping, you are worried too. Though silly a number of queries keep running in through your head if your item is safe or not.

Things are the same with your brand new car too. If you were to ship it as soon as you bought it, I don’t think most of you out there would be comfortable with it. Even if your car was old things are going to be the same. So let us learn ship our car easily.

Go and choose the best shipping company which you have heard of and provide them with details about shipping your car to the exact location where you would need it back. It is better to check on the insurance coverage of the company in advance to avoid future problems. Read it carefully and keep a copy of it with you. On the date of moving your car stay with it, if you want it to be safe.

Generally the mover fills out a bill which reports the condition of the car before it was loaded. Check if there are any scratches or dents before signing the report. Do not sign it unless you agree with every point in that report. Learn about the type of payment in advance too because it may delay the delivery of your car. Some companies make sure that you pay them in advance at their office, so do as necessary.

Make sure you get all these in writing as words spoken can change any point of time. Also remove all your belongings from your car as they are not covered by the insurance policy. The biggest part of the process is to receive the car. Check if you have received it in the same condition like how it was before else you will have a hard time claiming once you have signed for it. At last you have moved your car with ease!

Do not be surprised if you come to know that bicycles are considered to be vehicles and there are definite set of traffic rules which have to be followed by them too. In many countries the same hand signals are meant for other vehicles too which do not have signal lights or other modern ways of indication.

Some of the commonly used bicycle hand signals are:

Left turn:

For a cyclist to turn to the left of the road this signal is used. The cyclist has to extend his left hand in the direction of the turn to signal to others that he is going to turn left. This symbol is common in most parts of the world.

Right turn:

There are a number of ways in which a right turn is signified. In most places of the world the right hand is extended in direction of the turn to signal a right turn. While in the United States and Canada another method of signaling is also adapted. One has to extend his arm out to the left, parallel with the forearm held upward in order to signal for the turn.

Stop:

Stopping is signified by a number of means in different countries. In the United Kingdom cyclists have to extend their right arm parallel to the road with their palm facing down and wave it slowly to communicate to others that he is slowing down.

In the United States and Canada one has to extend his left arm to the left and parallel to the road and angle the forearm vertically downward while in Italy, the right arm held vertically with the palm facing the front indicates the same.

In countries like Australia and Denmark one has to extend his right vertically with palm facing the front as it Italy or one can put his right arm parallel to the road and keep the forearm vertical with the palm at the front to signal slowing or stopping.

A number of signals are also used by cyclists but they are not very common is use. It is very important for a person to be aware of these common bicycle hand signals before riding a bicycle in a different place. The bicycle hand signals in a particular country can be better understood with visuals.

Octane rating is the measure of how resistant is gasoline and other fuels in the combustion engines to automatic ignition. It the measure of a fuel’s burning characteristics.

Octane rating can be determined by measuring the octane number of a fuel. It is measured as follows. The anti-knocking capacity of the fuel under test is determined first. A mixture of iso-octane and heptane with the same anti-knocking capacity and the percentage of iso-octane in the mixture gives the octane number of the fuel.

Fuels with higher octane ratings tend to have higher activation energies meaning that it takes a long time for auto-ignition to take place. When fuels with lower octane rating are used, the efficiency and the power output of the engine decreases. When fuels with higher octane rating are used, higher compression can be achieved; however the power output of an engine depends on the energy density of the fuel contained in it.

Octane rating is specified in octane numbers. There are different standards followed in different countries. However the most common method of octane rating is specifying the Research Octane Number (RON). This is determined by comparison of the performance of a fuel and the mixture of iso-octane and heptane. Though hydrogen has better anti-knocking capabilities and reduces the knock of a fuel by its high thermal conductivity, it is not used as a standard. Iso-octane is used as the standard for determining octane numbers. Other types of octane rating are Motor Octane Number and Anti-Knock Index (ANI). Motor Octane Number is a measure of the tendency of the fuel’s burning characteristics under loaded conditions while Anti-Knock Index is the average of Research Octane Number and Motor Octane Number. The Motor Octane Number of heptane is 0 and that of iso-octane is 100 and thus a good fuel can have a Research Octane Number as high as hundred. Motor Octane Number can be ten points lower than that of a Research Octane Number.

Octane number of a gas can also be put into simple words for better understanding. A gas octane is the value beyond which the compression of a fuel or a gas automatically ignites it. This is different for different gases and hence it is one of the important factors evaluating the performance of any gas. The properties of these gases are artificially changed with changes brought about in these values.

When it comes time to purchase a new car, you’ll find that dealers will bombard you with “fantastic” deals and offers that “only last for the next five minutes”. It can be overwhelming and exhausting trying to sift through the bad stuff to get to the good stuff. But one of the most appealing and intriguing bits of advertising is when dealers offer extended car warranties.

In a nutshell, an extended car warranty is an insurance policy on your vehicle. It can be seen as a safeguard against repairs that have otherworldly prices. However, the term “misnomer” is attached with an extended car warranty most times. Actually, when broken down, these aren’t warranties at all. Just like auto warranties, this covers repairs and routine maintenance for a specified amount of time. However, honest warranties are included in the price of the vehicle, while extended car warranties are actually service contracts. They are sold separately and cost extra.

Extended car warranties can be bought at the same time of a vehicle transaction but it is also possible to obtain one after time has passed. For those who prefer being prepared for all possible events, an extended car warranty may be bought right away. If you keep in mind that repair costs are always increasing, a warranty such as this may make a lot of sense.

There are a few questions to ask yourself before deciding upon whether or not extended car warranties are for you:

How long does your current warranty last and does the coverage last just as long?

For brand new car owners, be sure to examine the factory warranty before deciding upon an extended car warranty. Manufacturers may offer “certified used” programs that go hand-in-hand with the original factory warranty. If the vehicle has no warranty, or you foresee going past the warranty’s expiration, an extended car warranty may be a wise choice.

Who is providing the warranty?

Extended warranties may have an independent company, known as aftermarket warranties. It is key to know who is providing the warranty because it provides you with knowledge of what strengths and flaws the contract may have.

Is it transferable?

Some warranties only cover the person who purchased it. Transferable warranties are preferred because it helps car resellers provide security to the new owner.

What is covered?

By analyzing what is and isn’t covered by an extended car warranty, you can decide which plan will work best. There are many types of warranties, such as “breakdown” warranties that protect any parts that break. If you don’t have problems with damaged parts often, this plan may not be for you.
When choosing an extended car warranty, please be sure to do your math and analyze what it proper for your lifestyle. Car dealers may try to pull more money than needed out of you for a plan that doesn’t necessarily adhere to your needs and wants. Keep an open mind but a keen eye, too. Good luck!

The Internet is a valuable guide to learn faster than ever thought possible before, while sitting in the comfort of your own home.

In previous years, the Internet was just developing and certainly was not what it is today. Today, a vast majority of states allow and recommend that perspective new drivers attend an on-line driving class that teaches the basic rules and regulations governing the proper and safe operation of a motor vehicle. This is not only convenient for the student but a tax payer saving incentive for the State in less monies being allocated to hire employees to conduct classes for perspective new drivers that once was long ago, to be considered the appropriate method of driving instruction. These virtual classrooms allow the students to learn at their own pace, to become more involved in the learning process, thereby, retaining more of the information in record time.

With these virtual classrooms, the perspective new driving students learn how to not only apply correct methods and procedures for safe operation of a motor vehicle, but upon completion of the appropriate manual studies take an on-line exam in anticipation of achieving a passing score. Once a passing score has been recorded, again through the virtual classroom, the student is issued a certificate of completion, or often called learners’ permit, which allows the student to operate a motor vehicle in the presence of a licensed driver, generally, a parent. A certificate or learners’ permit does not give the authorization for the student to begin driving immediately. There still are many obstacles to hurdle before actual operation of a motor vehicle can commence.

Typically, parents will enroll their perspective new driver in a drivers’ school conducted by private individuals’ in association with local and State authorities, to learn the mechanics of driving a motor vehicle, controls, etc. With new found knowledge from attending the on-line driving school and in conjunction with the appropriate driving school, students will gain the valuable knowledge and skills needed to become safe and courteous drivers, while the students’ parents lie in their beds at night, waiting for the safe return of their new driver!
