If you are of the idea that traveling only requires a passport and a visa and not the help of a doctor then you are completely wrong. For more than half of the countries you can travel to some level of vaccination or medication is needed. The most common vaccinations are rabies, tuberculosis, and H1N1. The most common medication is Malaria medication. Doctors are also needed for emergency cases but also to help during other occasions such as epidemics or other great diseases. In fact a travel doctor doesn’t have to be someone related to your health and he can also be a person who can advise you of better health and other environmental factors at the place of your visit.

There are a number of services and medical help agencies which advertise for travel doctors but what do these travel doctors originally do? They simply demonstrate you with some of the common diseases in the place of your visit, the precautions to avoid them, the causes and remedies to these diseases and how a person can get help in case he has been diagnosed with some particular disease from that country. Travel doctors also have a wide knowledge about the geographical conditions of a place and its medical history.

In the ancient days, people were mainly afraid to travel because most sailors who set out to unknown lands always landed upon some epidemic or some other disease which was mysterious in nature. Before the development of medical sciences most of these diseases led to death and people completely gave up on travel because of these factors. Without a doubt the best place to find a travel doctor is online. You should be able to find fees and get a convenient appointment.

Things have not changed completely and I was surprised when my next door friend who went on his dream trip returned with swine flu. Though he is fine now I was taken aback to see with such a strange disease. The main reason for him to be affected is because he did not take the help of a travel doctor and he went on his journey with no idea about the medical conditions of his destination. If he had consulted a travel doctor, he would’ve proceeded on his journey with a simple face mask which would’ve avoided the disaster completely.

Swine flu is one of the cases and there are a number of other cases as well. As we all know ‘prevention is better than cure’ and is better to protect us along with our family instead of having yourself at a hospital after the trip. This not only puts you in bed but affects the joy of the trip as well.

Juvenile onset diabetes, also known as Type I diabetes, is normally diagnosed in childhood or adolescence. However, it can begin at any age.

Diabetes is a condition for which there is no cure—only treatment. It occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin to maintain proper blood sugar levels. Insulin is needed for the body to take glucose (sugar) from the bloodstream and store it in cells. Without it, the glucose remains in the bloodstream, where the body is unable to tap it for energy. Diabetes can cause the pancreas to completely stop producing insulin.

Before juvenile onset diabetes is diagnosed, some patients will experience no symptoms whatsoever. Many, though, report some or all of the following: being perpetually tired, feelings of excessive hunger or thirst, frequent urination, even at night, unexplained weight loss, blurred vision, or numbness or tingling in the feet. If the blood sugar levels are extremely high, symptoms may include rapid respiration, dry mouth, nausea or vomiting, or flushing of the face. They may also have a distinct fruit smell to their breath.

Juvenile onset diabetes is normally diagnosed through one of a variety of blood glucose tests. Some types require fasting for a period (usually 12 hours) before the test, while some are performed at various periods of the day. A physician may also order a ketone test; ketones are the by-product produced when the body is burning fat or muscle. A urinalysis is performed and the ketone levels are measured.

Complications from juvenile onset diabetes are common, and much medical attention is directed to the prevention of complications. These may include vision loss, renal failure, and nerve damage, particularly in the feet and legs.

Patients with Type I diabetes must learn to give themselves insulin injections, and should be conscientious about checking their glucose levels. Naturally, in the case of a child, the parent or caregiver will be required to handle, but by the time the patient reaches his or her teens, responsibility is usually shifted from the parent to the patient. With proper medical care and experience, they learn how to make adjustments in insulin doses when they are sick or involved in strenuous exercise. There are several different types of insulin, each with its own signature as to how quickly it begins to take effect and how long that effect will last.

People with juvenile onset diabetes may need an injection three or four times a day. The injections only need to penetrate the skin as opposed to entering a muscle or blood vein. A new, sterile needle should be used for each injection. Some patients may be able to utilize an insulin pump, instead.

Diet is also an important part of the treatment plan. Meals should be eaten around the same time each day, and should consist of the same types of food. The main factors in determining the proper diet for diabetics is the carbohydrate and protein count of the food rather than calories or food group.

Advances in the health care field have made it possible to control the symptoms of juvenile onset diabetes, and while there is still no cure for the condition, complications can be minimized, enabling the patient to live a full, normal life.

In recent years, you can not go for long without hearing someone talking about antioxidants. It seems to be the craze in healthy living, but does anyone really know what antioxidants are or what they do? Antioxidants actually are important in helping your body to fight off and to avoid illness. Your body creates something called free radicals which lead to heart problems, cancer, and numerous other health concerns. Free radicals are created by a molecular process called oxidation. Antioxidants fight this process and prevent free radical formation.

Antioxidants can’t eliminate oxidation, because oxidation is simply part of life. Antioxidants, more so, provide a balance to your bodies processes. They prevent over oxidation or oxidative stress. Does oxidative stress cause diseases or is it the result of diseases? The answer to that question is yet to be determined with any confidence. It is, however known that oxidative stress does cause cells to die or become significantly damaged.

Your brain cells are the most vulnerable to damage from oxidation. You will be doing a lot to decrease your chances of things like Alzheimer’s disease if you are consuming foods which are high in antioxidants. Antioxidants are even used in medications to treat injury and illness associated with the brain. This is especially true in medications used for Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and even stroke.

When you exercise, you increase your oxygen intake, as well as your metabolism. Because of this your oxidation process is increased, but is essential in repairing your body from exercise damage. Due to this fact, you need to avoid excess antioxidant consumption, so that your body is not prevented from healing itself. Your body’s repair process peaks approximately 5 days after you exercise.

Antioxidant supplements are available, but antioxidants are prevalent in your everyday foods. Recently, blueberries and green tea are a popular source of antioxidants, but they can be found in so many more products. Vitamin A is an essential antioxidant, and can be found in fruits and vegetables like carrots, cantaloupe and broccoli. Vitamin C is another important antioxidant and is prevalent in citrus fruits like oranges or grape fruit, as well as things like strawberries, lettuce, spinach or green peppers. Vitamin E and Selenium are also both antioxidants which are important for you to consume. Vitamin E can be found in things like lettuce or almonds. Selenium is found in fish, chicken and eggs to name a few sources. Sources of antioxidants are numerous and you are likely consuming sufficient amounts of antioxidants without even trying to do so. If you try to track your consumption of antioxidants, you will see that you are not low in that consumption.

Antioxidants are used in preserving foods as well, because exposure to oxygen and ultraviolet light are the biggest source of decomposition of anything. Food sitting out on the counter of your kitchen is going to go bad much more quickly than the food sitting in the sealed refrigerator. For this reason, antioxidants are used to slow the oxidation process affecting your food.
