google-chrome-osThe open source operating system Google Chrome OS is designed to handle web applications.  Debuting in July 2009, the program is supposed to have a stable release in the beginning of 2010.  Google Chrome OS is based on Linux and only operates on special software.  The system resembles the Chrome web browser.  Google Chrome OS is designed for individuals who spend the majority of their computer time on the internet.

The goal of the user interface is to create minimal screen space.  This will be accomplished by grouping applications and standard Web pages to one tab strip.  Developers are thinking about a reduced window management scheme, which will operate on full-screen mode.  Floating “panels” are another idea the creators are working on.  The panels will attach to the bottom of the screen.  Split screens are also taken into consideration.  This will make it easier to view two documents or pages side by side.

Google Chrome OS (Operating System) is designed for devices like netbooks, not a primary personal computer (PC).  This program will support hard disk drives and Google has requested hardware partners to use solid state drives for higher reliability and performance.  Compared to Windows 7, Google Chrome OS uses one-sixtieth of space.  Acer, Adobe, Hewlett-Packard, Qualcomm, Lenovo, Intel, Texas Instruments and Freescale are companies working to develop hardware for the system.

Ever since Google introduced their Chrome browser in September 2008, people have been watching the battle between Microsoft and Google.  However, research of December 2009 states that Microsoft rules the usage share of desktop operating systems.  They also dominate word processing and spreadsheet application markets.  PC World, however, has said the Google Chrome OS may very well be the next biggest thing against Microsoft.

The main aspects of Google Chrome OS are to provide simplicity, security and speed to its users.  This will help the web browsers boot up faster and users will be able to travel through the internet quickly.  Google Chrome OS is able to function on x86 as well as ARM chips.  This system will be available to people who have Windows, Mac and Linux.

Google is focused on providing their users will better and faster computers.  They want their customers to have quick moving e-mail and web browsers that will start up without delay.  Google wishes to provide their customers with great support and keep their computers running as if they were just purchased.
